I was picked on relentlessly in 9th grade (this was in a small town in southern Illinois) Before 10th grade my family moved to the Washington DC area where I went to a school about 10 times the size in an inner city neighborhood, and oddly enough I was not picked on once!
I dealt with being pushed down over and over so kids could watch me get back up, getting hit, yelled at, punched in the legs, absolutely ridiculous. I was too scared to speak out, but I'd say definitely make sure that the school knows the situation and is taking responsibility for his wellbeing. Something that I wish I would've done back then.
