Both had begun falling and tiring, but had been active all their lives. My grandfather died without exhibiting any other symptoms but my father was thought to possibly have had MS, but at the time there wasn't an exact diagnoses. No other relative is known to have been symptomatic. Mine started in my late 20's with tiring going up steps, by 35 I had a pacemaker due to CHF & complete heart block of the sinus node. By age 46 I received a heart transplant. Afterwards I needed a cane for balance and continued to trip until my transplant surgeon insisted I get checked out. In 2005 I was tentatively diagnosed with Becker. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much out there for women with this diagnoses.

I have been told that I am a manifested carrier of BMD. My sons (2) have BMD and physically are doing great at the ages of 21 and 22. I have cramping, the more I do the more I cramp. I have had cramping most of my life, remember them in highschool, when the boys were diagnosed I started to make a point of not saying anything about them. Knowing that they had more on their plate! - As the years have past they (the cramps)have gotten worse. The medical staff after being around me asked about them and suggested I be tested. MDA clinic docs then put the label on me as a "Manifested Carrier". Honestly I haven't done a lot of checking into that and would like to know more. The disease has not showen up anywhere in my large extended family so the theory is that it manifested in me. Accept that I have a sister that has the same cramping problems and muscle fatigue (could be because she is a cashier at a major grocery store here) her son shows signs of having BMD - oh how denial can rule a life! My mother refused to be tested and my syblings made the decision not to do testing upon her death due to the fact that we were all done having kids and without the genetic information to know how it might effect the other kids from this generation and others. Anyhow- manifested carrier, I have weak hands my kids have weak hands, the cramps keep me awake and will wake me up, at all cost I do not stretch (nor does my sis) it will cause cramping and will pull my back out or make for sore muscle elsewhere. I know this all sounds strange, but I am very active, I walk, hike, swim, work hard in the yard, do everything - I just find that I have to go slow in order to not cramp. Lots of cramps in my abdomen when bending or stretching. Let me know if you have similar symptoms.

I finely got me SSDA. It was a up hill fight all the way. My pain level has increased. The headaches are getting worse. The Doc. tells me that is is from the stress that I'm under. I don't feel stressed. The Doc. still can not find the flaw in my DNA. It seem that if the doc.'s can't find the answer for something they tell you to try this med. if that don't work try another. I would like to know what your going through

Veronica, I have Becker as well as Osteo Arthritis. I cannot tell you how happy I am to learn that there are other women out there with Becker. I am from Australia. I noticed that you have problems with breathing etc. I have other problems like the arthritis plus neck and back pain too. Funny though, I don't have cramps in my legs but in my abdomen. This is not due to stretching though. Noone in my family has it. My mum was a carrier. I was rediagnosed with having Becker when I was 28. When I was 6 I was diagnosed as having Duchenne. I would love to write to you and find out how you are coping with it. I see your 2 year old son has it as well. I would like to get to know you and share our common condition.
