47year old female diagnosed with BMD about 4 yrs ago. have large leg calves, have suffered bad cramps in legs also get bad migraines (dont know if its linked) have lived a full life so far & wont let bmd change my life. my son was diagnosed when he was 12yrs old, although he always had problems with walking & playing sports we never wrapped him up in cotton wool but encouraged him to live life to the full he even went backpacking with his friends to australia etche is now 26yrs old

47year old female diagnosed with BMD about 4 yrs ago. have large leg calves, have suffered bad cramps in legs also get bad migraines (dont know if its linked) have lived a full life so far & wont let bmd change my life. my son was diagnosed when he was 12yrs old, although he always had problems with walking & playing sports we never wrapped him up in cotton wool but encouraged him to live life to the full he even went backpacking with his friends to australia etc he is now 26yrs old' we knew from a very young age that our son had problems especially when we were out walking & he would plunk himself down on the path & refuse to get up, he suffers very bad cramps in his legs, back & shoulder pains, when he overdid things he would have days off school & blood in his urine but he has learnt to pace himself & keeps very active. he has been very lucky that he has made some very good friends over the years & has a lovely girlfriend who all know about his problems. he has come across people who felt they would catch something from him like a disease but mostly when he explains they begin to understand.he did tae-kwon-do as a child( they knew all about his disability & he got up to a blue belt)he could sit out at anytime. he passed his driving test at 16yrs (anyone with a mobility problem can take their test earlier) & drives a mobility car

  Your attitude is wonderful and very inspiring.  I have a son who has just been diagnosed with BMD at the age of 26. We are positive people who believe the power of positive thinking and prayer makes life, especially life with any disease, bearable and worth living. God bless you and keep the proactive attitude going.  I believe your children are very lucky to have you as a role model.  Take care of yourself and thanks for sharing. Andrea
