I'm 22 and have been on the twice a week (Sat and Sunday) Prednisone treatment for about two years now. I know I've had a lot of other doctors (not neurologists) worry about a treatment like this, especially with such a high dose (I'm on 150mg each day). Everything people know about this medication is wrong when done on a twice a week schedule. You still get some of the side effects, but they aren't as severe as taking the medication everyday. Some of the same side effects include: Changed taste and feeling - A lot of foods (especially sugary ones) have a different taste. I'm my opinion it makes things taste bad. I've also felt more scratchy (No, not because of an overdose :D ) than normal on the medication. Feel Hotter - I always feel hotter on this medication. Being Wired - Yea, this medication makes you wired on the weekends. Trying to fall asleep is harder and your body doesn't get the same quality rest. Dehydration - My body retains a lot of water when I'm on it. I try to drink more water than usual. I also feel more thirsty when on this medication. Tiredness when coming off medication - I'm always very tired on Mondays and Tuesdays because the medication had me so wired. I tend to be real sleepy after work. A little nap usually takes care of this. Little Depression (Not clinical, just the feeling) - When coming off this medication because it changes so many things in my body I usually feel a little depressed on these days. When I'm fully off this medication on Wendsday I feel much better. Important: You do gain weight on this medication. Your neurologist should monitor your weight trend and try to balance the Prednisone so you are at a stable weight. My neurologist has stated that the treatment I'm on will at least stabilize out my strength and might at least increase it by three times. He knew a patent that was in a wheelchair with BMD and with this treatment now can walk. It does show promise.[/b]

Hey James Great info. How long have you been taking the medication and have you noticed any improvement so far? I have noticed myself that I get some almost immediate benefits when on very low doses given to me by my doctor for serious sinus inflamations. I'm talking small amounts like <10mg a day for 5 days. Is there a study that your doctor refers to when giving you this advice? If you could ask him, that would be beneficial and the rest of us might read up on it. Also, what part of the country do you live and who is your doctor? Kevin

I've been taking the medication for about two years now. The only thing I notice is my strength seems to be stable. I am doing thing like timing myself getting up stairs or getting up from sitting so I can see the results. I have improved in these areas by a few seconds since taking the treatment. I will try to find some of the studies for everyone here, I just need some time. I goto the Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology in Minnesota. Dr. Leland Scott is my doctor and he's been great.

This gives me a lot of hope. Now, I just need to find a doctor who will understand and has knowledge to help me out. I am already fighting a bit of wieght problems without steroids , so that might be a concern?
