Hello I have BMD related heart problems that have damaged my heart. I have been told that I should have a defibrilator installed to prevent sudden cardiac arrest. I am getting a single lead ICD in July. Does anyone already have one and want to share your experience? Kevin

I had a dual chamber ICD implanted on 10/28/05, because I have Cardiomyopathy cause by the EVIL Beckers MD. I woke up during the middle of the surgery screaming "it hurts, it hurts" the doctors were yelling back at me "calm down, calm down, you are making it worse." then I was put back under. I get alot of acne around the surgery site.

Hey Corollary I had a single lead ICD implanted a couple of weeks ago. I have cardiomyopathy too. I'm doing well, but the ICD is a precaution. So far it's healing well, with no problems and the procedure went smoothly. During the procedure they test the device (ie give you a big shock) and sometimes people do come out of sedation when that happens. My doctor explained that to me ahead of time....a bit freaky...but it didn't happen to me. Sounds like you did wake up....I can imagine it would be a very surreal experience. I thought about the dual chamber ICD...did you find that it made you feel better? Kevin

Hi, my husband is having a dual ICD fitted this tuesday 27th May, he is suffering with heart problems as a result of the Beckers. We would be interested to hear from anyone who has had a device fitted, and could give us some insight into what to expect once the device has been fitted. thanks ali

Hey There It's almost a year now since I got mine. I just have a single lead ICD, but the dual lead procedure is very similar. It took about 6 weeks to heal fully, so that you could fully use your arm. They don't want you doing much with your arm, because it could cause the leads to shift. Other than that the procedure went well for me without any complications and I went home after staying in the hospital overnight. I would make sure you have a discussion with your anthesesiologist before the procedure to make sure they don't use sedation that is harmful to MD patients. This would be my biggest suggestion beyond the heart procedure itself. Many Drs aren't familiar with the drugs that are not good for MD patients, be sure to have this conversation and make sure you're satisfied with their answer.

HI My husband had his ICD fitted 27th May, he had to have 3 leads and will possibly need further work done later this summer. He is back home now and doing ok. obviously weak and finding it hard not using his left arm. Its automatic for him to do so. Its amazing what can be done to help. He didnt feel the shock, they sedated him , he had the sensation of pushing when they were fitting the device. We are hoping he doesnt need the interaction of the defibrilator. Be great to hear how your all doing. alison :D :D
