Becker Muscular Dystrophy can affect cardiac muscle function. Doctors and scientists familiar with BMD typically advise BMD patients to visit a cardiologist once per year.

I was also informed, when I went for genetic counselling, that carriers should also see a cardiologist to get a baseline as there has been some cardiac involvement with some carriers as well.
