Hello I think every new BMD patient should learn to swim, if you don't know how already. Find a local place to get your feet wet. I really enjoy swimming, it is good exercise and allows me to exercise muscles that are weaker on dry land. I think that breast stroke is the most beneficial for my hip, thigh, and shoulder muscles, but not quite as aerobic as freestyle. I often mix up my laps with a few with a kickboard to give my arms a break. Kevin

I agree with this as my husband and I try to go swimming regularly... we never want to go but always feel better once we have been. Swimming gives my man a chance to freely kick his legs without worrying about falling, plus it keeps us both fit.

I agree that swimming is great! My boys and I did a lot of swimming this summer. By the end of the summer (before they went back to school), I noticed how much longer that they could swim and also that it took long for them to get sore playing on the playground. :)
