Hello Finding a good BMD doctor will probably be one of your most challenging efforts. There just aren't a lot of doctors that specialize in the BMD issues. The DMD doctors focus on children, so often BMD patients do not have access to them. In my case there is an amazing Childrens MD clinic here in Denver, but it is not available for anyone older than 18. Few DMD patients live beyond the early 20s, so that only leaves us rare BMD folks. Thus the adult MD facilities/doctors are sparse and uncoordinated. Don't dispair...we are starting a list that should help you identify some doctors that other patients have used and like. Kevin

Hello: My son is 7 and recently diagnosed w/ BMD. We live in Southern California, Orange County. I would really like to find a good doctor that specializes in this disease. Is there someplace I can go to find a listing? Thank you for your assistance.

Hey there Send a message (email or pm) to davidsomlo on this site. He has BMD, lives near you in So. Cal and volunteers with the MDA. I'm sure he'd be happy to share his experience and contacts. If you have problems contacting him, just let me know. Kevin

Hi, I'm also interested in doctors/therapists specializing in MD. I live in Ventura County & have an appt at UCLA mda clinic next week for my 9 yr old son. I'm going to ask them for a referal. A few weeks ago our neurologist recommended a p.therapist to go to & finally after getting the appt & arriving, they advised me they did not know much about BMD & were just being honest w/ me so I may seek someone who knows. I have just realized how important it is to have good docs/therapist etc. I have a great pediatric cardiologist who knows alot about BMD, but I'm not too enthused w/ our neurologist. I hope to get more info next week at my appt.

Hi Angelita, I live in the East Bay and my son was diagnosed at Stanford in Palo Alto. I know there are two MDA clinics in the North Bay, one is SF and one in Palo Alto. You should contact the MDA office in SF to find out if there is anything closer to you. Use this link and at the bottom left side of the page they have a box where you put your zip code and it will do a search for you (http://www.mda.org/). I hope this helps. Regards, Meisa
