I had my first visit with a physical therapist a few days ago....here are the basic concepts that were communicated to me. I'm providing this information as a reference, not a replacement for medical treatment. Hopefully this will make you a more educated patient/consumer. 1) Do not expect any strength improvements from Physical Therapy. It may or may not improve strength 2) It is generally believed that moderate exercise of affected muscles will help maintain muscle tone and strength. 3) Not exercising your muscles will most likely cause them to atrophy faster. 4) Exercising too much (to the point of pain or soreness) is probably harmful if done repeatedly.
